Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues
The Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI) is an independent organization established in 1936, with a focus on psychology and public policy. The Society is headquartered in Washington, D.C. and is affiliated with the American Psychological Association as APA Division 9. It has approximately 3000 members consisting of psychologists and other allied scientists who research the psychological aspects of important social issues and seek to ensure that science informs public policy solutions.
SPSSI has a long history of organizing psychologists' involvement in social issues within its own borders and around the globe. The society played a key role in the preparation of social science briefs in ''Brown v. Board of Education''. It publishes several academic journals, including the electronic ''Analyses of Social Issues and Public Policy,'' the annual Social Issues and Policy Review, and its flagship quarterly, ''Journal of Social Issues''.
